I bought my 7mm for hunting in PA mountains... I know what you mean about ridge to ridge. The thrill of the kill dies quick for me when I relize how much up and down walking I have to do to go get my deer.

Yeah the worst part was we parked in the woods and walked up to our stands, about a 40 minute hike, too much snow to make it up the hills/ we met up for lunch on an old logging road and we spotted the dear on another ridge, we got 4 of them, the bad part is they rolled down the hill within about 30 yards of our trucks, so then we had to hike 40 more minutes to get to them, up there had to walk about 3 miles to go 400 yards across in a foot of snow.

264 Win Mag and anything with Weatherby after it are great.
A 30-378 Weatherby is sweet for reaching out there but the recoil tradeoff sometimes isn't worth it....still fun though.
A 25-06 will get out there pretty flat like, too.
Heck anymore there are so many calibers that point blank outside of 300 yards.....but still so few shooters who can capitalize on it.
