I realize that we're not in the era of a "tyrannical government." What I was saying is that is the basis behind the 2nd amendment originally.

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
-Thomas Jefferson

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Where in there does it say that you can use a firearm to protect yourself. In fact, it wasn't until 2008 in the Supreme Court District of Columbia v. Heller that the court decided that the 2nd amendment protects an individual's right to bear arms, unconnected to service in a militia and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.

Don't forget each state has a Constitution.....how is it worded in your state...or does it even address it..that's why I love living in a free state. This is what our state constitution says...and till the 10th amendment goes away.....or the people in the state vote to change the state constitution.....

Article 1, Section 24. Right to bear arms.

The right of citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and of the state shall not be denied.

Open carry is not questioned in the state, the state allows concealed carry with a permit or without (it is up to you) and honors quite a few other states carry permits.

No duty to retreat when defending yourself...no question as to your right to protect you, your loved ones, others...
