I can't even buy a completed lower because the ATF says its still a receiver. So I have to buy a complete rifle. I'm gonna be checking out some cheap rifle just to use the lower because I don't really feel like waiting another year till I'm 21 to build this rifle.

Why not buy a quality AR15...not a $2K one, but a good quality one...a nice optic (or just run some iron sights) several cases of ammo & shoot it, learn the rifle & then take a class....

Learning the weapon system 1st, how to shoot it & then build one as you will know/understand the weapon so much better & more what you want.

So many people want to jump right in, building, buying parts/pieces and end up loosing money...not knowing how the weapon works...and wasting lots of time..

What do you suggest for a rifle? What I was thinking was buying something like an olympic arms or whatever I could pick up fairly cheap and build my own upper. Whatever I buy, I'm not going to jump into building right away. I'll go out and shoot it just because its new.

Are there any differences between a 5.56 lower and a .22LR lower? I was looking at complete rifles on gunbroker and accidentally clicked on one that was a .22LR and it was NIB for 499. Just wondering if that might work to build a 5.56 upper for and then I'd also have a dedicated .22 upper...:humm:

I would buy a Stag. Stag has been making parts for all the major manufacturers (S&W, Bushmaster, and yes....even Colt!). They are a solid manufacturer. I bought mine for $789. If not stag, then Smith and Wesson. S&W finally took what they learned from Stag, who used to make almost 100% of S&W rifle parts, and began producing their own rifle. Just so you know that you can trust what I say, I am a certified AR Armorer. I have been a member of a SWAT team in western PA for 4 years. I am the ATL of the precision marksman/observer element of the team. all ARs ARE NOT THE SAME. trust me. If you want piston driven, SAVE your moey and buy ADCOR. They have developed a solid one piece piston that is mated to the gas key. No other piston driven rifle will be able to keep up w/ it. It is based on the same concept as the AK47, but it is still an AR. Any other questons, just ask. Good Luck.
