Better to buy the THE SIG FOR $299 than the Hi point

However, some people would rather piss away money buying shit just cuz it's shit than getting something better...

When I was looking for my first handgun I considered hi-points. $150 for a 9mm looked like a damn good deal to me. My buddy's dad has one that he keeps by the bed for home defense. Yeah it goes bang every trigger pull, I haven't seen or heard of it jamming, and other then the FRAME MOUNTED SAFETY digging into my thumb, it fits my hand decent. They are big, bulky, heavy, and ugly. The ugly alone made it low on my list. It would make a great truck gun in my opinion.

I saved my money and bought a fullsize Springfield XD in .40S&W. It fits my hand better than a glove. It doesn't conceal worth a shit unless I have my big heavy winter carhartt coat on(because its a fullsize and a little on the heavy side). I don't get the practice with it as much as I'd like because the cost of ammo, so I still can't shoot it as great as I'd like. Take a piece of regular copy or printer paper and put it up to your chest, I can hit that paper with my gun. You will have to practice A LOT. I have probably close to 7-800 rounds through my XD with NO hiccups at all. I bought it for $498 last October.

I don't know why you don't want a used gun, but in my area, you can pick up a used Glock 9mm for around $350. Speaking of 9mm, since this is your first gun, I'd say get a 9mm. I wish I had instead of my .40(but I still won't get rid of it). If you shoot a .40 then a 9, you'll see that the 9 is much easier to control. As soon as I get the extra money to do so, I'll be shopping for a Glock 19 9mm or maybe if I can find a used one, a sub compact XD or XDM in 9mm.

I'm not sure what they run, but one 9mm(or .40) option that I'd like to check out more is the Springfield Armory EMP. Its a small 1911 style gun in 9mm or .40. EMP stands for "Enhanced Micro Pistol". Its real thin like a 1911 and probably just as reliable. 1911 controls. Here's a link to the EMP: Springfield Armory

You asked what JHP stood for. It means Jacketed Hollow Point. 9mm is bigger than .380. And shot placement is what its all about. Practice, practice, practice BEFORE you start carrying and take your CCW class. A .22LR round to the ocular cavity(eyes) will kill a man the same as a .45. .380s make good conceal carry guns but ammo is on the more expensive side and that makes it hard to practice. 9mil has more power behind it, but like I said, shot placement is paramount. Get online and buy some targets and practice shooting the places that will stop an attacker. Opsgear.com has some good ones.

Sorry for the book sized post. Just tryin' to help. Good Luck!

That emp springfield is over $1000.....

I do like the 9mm hi point. Not as ugly as the other ones. Has good reviews. It is concealable as well.

If I'm going to spend over $1,000 on a 1911 it'll be a LES BAER:tu:
