Martin, I wont say that a Glock is as safe or safer then a 1911. But to think that if you do your part like you should it will still go off is crazy. A gun is ony as safe as the person using it.

Like you I like all guns, My Glock fits my daily carry set-up well in the cooler months. I have other guns for other uses.

No gun will just go off MODERN guns only goes off when the trigger is pulled, I know you are responsible & will only pull the trigger when it's needed, but it's the kids that I worry about

No kids. If I did have kids it would be locked up.

Right now my wifes and my handgun stay on the bedside table at night. I actually have one of those bedside safes with the fingerprint reader that I bought for when some friends of ours come into town and stay with us, they have 3 small children. The wifes goes in the gun safe and mine goes in the bedside safe when they stay with us.

I'm more concerned that a couple big-time gun owners here are blaming a firearm instead of the dumbfuck owner.....

....shocking....then we wonder how gun opponents get leverage.

Just saying there are idiots out there, that should not breed, When you buy a gun, you should know it's weakness & try to avoid it

Ever wanted to watch somebody die cuz they carried with a empty chamber...

If you do not want to watch a human killed due to his stupidity and carrying a weapon with a empty chamber then do not watch the video

If you carry a pistol you must know your pistol and to not carry a round in the chamber is pure stupidity...

You should also know it's strengths and then train to exploit one and avoid the other...

I know guys who have carried 1911's for more years than I'm alive miss the thumb safety under stress, I have missed the extended thumb safety on my 1911's and a couple race guns I've shot under heavy stress...

I've read of people missing the thumb safety of 1911's in real world no **** full on adrenaline dump mode up against a bad guy....

The thumb safety of the 1911 can be a weak point...

I'll bet my next paycheck that I don't even miss the thumb safety on my Glock in a high stress environment.

You bring up a great point though, fine motor skills get really hard to control under stress. Safety aside.... Studies show that statistically you wont be getting a great hit rate on what your shooting at when in a life and death situation. I want to say (and don't quote this) that on average its something like 40% hit rate at typical personal defence ranges... LIke I said, don't quote thatm I'm sure we can find the right number somewhere, thats just what seems to pop out to me as what I read.
