ya i agree. i only shoot a 7 mag and a .243 for antelope and deer. if you cant make an accurate shot with a small calibar then a big gun shouldnt be needed. just my opinion.

D.M. Bell shot quite a few of his 1,000+ elephants with a 7x57 Mauser.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. The .460 Weatherby is likely overkill for anything that walks the Earth as it has been reported it's 500 grn solid will completely penetrate an elephant, in one side and out the other, from any angle. And look at all the Big Bears that have been cleanly taken with .30-30's and such around the turn of the century (20th not 21st LOL).

That being said, I'd much rather have the big thumper in my hands when it comes time to stop a charge. Same can be said for personal/home defense. Yeah a .22 can kill a man...eventually, but a .45 will put him down and keep him there.

For North American big nasties, I think something around the .338 Win or .340 Weatherby is the ticket, although a Marlin levergun in .450 Marlin for the 1200lb Alaskan Brown Bear or majorly pissed moose hiding in that tall grass 15 yards in front of ya would feel pretty good also.

Thanks guys for the input.

I got to the range today with a few of a buddies guns.

A Firestorm 380, Springfield XD 45cal, and a Mossberg 500 12ga.

I am gonna get one of them Mossbergs, I really liked it. As for the handguns, that little 380, I didnt care for. The price on it is nice at about 300 bucks, but the sight was too big, and the bullet drops alot, making the groups hard to control. The 45 on the other hand, sweet gun. I will consider that one

That 380 ammo is very scarce right now and $$$. You can get 45acp for about the same price. I guess with the shortages, production must have bumped up on 9 and 45 with the other calibers left behind. Like everything else it should come back and go down in price.

^^^^That. Something like a surefire will absolutely destroy their night vision and it's bright enough to stun/disorient them, it takes about 2 seconds to reorient yourself after getting that bright of a light shined in your eyes in the dark...2 seconds is A LOT of time. Even after that, it definitely leaves a big blind spot in your vision for a few minutes. Bright light for the win in home defense!

Laser sights are only high speed in Chuck Norris's Delta Force or if it's IR and your allies are the only ones with NVG's...and that's partially so they can see where each other are located.

I'm really happy with my Glock 22(.40); a good, metal, 1911 frame is really nice...I swear there are more little mods to do to the 1911's than an AR! Ooh, you could always build an AR-Pistol! I suppose you could take it a step farther and build an AR10 pistol...nothing like .308 for stopping power.

Okay, that was just excessive.
