You should be good. Most states say 18 for long guns (rifles & shotguns) and 21 for handguns. Of course states like Commiefornia, Illinois and New York may be different. Quickest way to find out is just call your local gun dealer, but I do believe you are in the clear for your .30-30.

*BTW. Don't know what rifle you are looking at, but the Marlin 336 rocks!

My buddy has an 1895 "Guide Gun" in .450 Marlin. It's basically a .45-70 with a magnum-type belt instead of a rim and loaded to higher pressures. It's pretty stout at both ends!

Yeah, I like the 45/70gov better just cause of the history. 450 marlin is a awesome round!

If you want a nice entry level 1911 the Rock Island Armory makes a few different models. The 1911 A1 tactical is a good start. Available in 45acp and 38 super(close to 357 sig)

Ever pull the trigger on a .460 Weatherby Magnum? Now THAT rifle will get your attention! I had one back in the early '90's. Beautiful Mark v Deluxe with a blond European Walnut stock (american walnut stocks were splitting under recoil) and a straight 6x Leupold scope sitting on top. Back then, the Weatherby factory loading pushed a 500gr .458 caliber bullet at 2700 feet per second for over 8000 ft-lbs of energy! Today, they've tamed it a bit by dropping the velocity to "only" 2600 fps and 7500 lb-ft . Out of an 11 lb rifle/scope combo and without the muzzle brake (too damn LOUD!) your body had to soak-up nearly 115 pounds of recoil! About 5 shots a day was all I was good for. By then, I had a migraine from the whiplash!

Below is .223 (5.56mm NATO), .308 Win (7.62 NATO) and .460 Weathetby Mag.

Anything over .375 is uneccessary...I'd even go so far as to say overall anything over .30 caliber is uneccessary.

That of course doesn't change the fact that the medium and large bores are hella cool and I want a bunch of them.
