A CANADIAN SNIPER with a McMILLAN 50 BMG set the record for the longest kill with a rifle, he sniped an insurgent at 2,430 meters he also had sniped one at 1,700 meters.

A U.S. Marine sniper, Carlos Hathcock, held that record since his day in Vietnam. He had his armorer make a base to mount the 10x Unertl scope from his Winchester Model 70 .30-06 sniper rifle to a M2 .50 cal Browning machine gun. The gun's rate of fire was slow enough to squeeze off single shots. He nailed a gun-runner on a bike from 2500 yds from Hill 55. He made several other kills from that distance. He stated he had to lead a walking man by 20 feet for the bullet to hit it's mark at that range!

For anybody with some time on their hands, pick up the book Marine Sniper 93 Confirmed Kills (his unconfirmed is believed to be over 400) and read about one of the best snipers in history. Or check this out:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Hathcock
