I just bought a dodge tailgate off of a 96 at my local pick and pull junkyard for $50. I took it to the hot water car wash to remove the factory stickers on it, and it worked great. There is also that black plastic piece that runs across the bottom half of the tailgate that I took off, but I only got the glue off. It still has glue residue and this black stuff on it. How do I get this off without severely scratching the tailgate? I have used a rag with hot water on it draped over an ice scraper to remove glue from the body that was left behind by removed emblems, but it is not working in this case.

there is actually a sticker glue remover out there...............for small jobs I have always used mosquito spray like off........it softens it pretty good

Automotive Goo Gone. , WD-40 (this will take some elbow grease); possibly lighter fluid. And yes mosquito spray or Avon skin so soft....

 

Try WD40 or lighter fluid.

 

plastic frying pan scraper and hair dryer to supply heat.
