Default I'll keep my cummins!!!!

O.K. for a while now some of you might have know that I was expecting my new 6.4l work truck, that has been on order for 3 months. Well it came and I told you guys that I would post some pics and tell you my opinion of the new block. Well here I go.

Headed to town today with the boss in his F350 v10 which he can hardly get into reverse anymore (but that's another story.) We get to Ford and my 6.4l is all ready to go. I get in it and away we go back to the ranch (about a 45min drive back.) Ummmm sounds nice, good power at the top end, but definitely not a cummins at the bottom, interior's nice, not to sure what to think of the body but it'll do for work.... cows don't care what it looks like. Seems like flawless shifts with little to no loss of power in the band. Yes, I think this truck with work fine for a beater on the ranchero() "Whoa! What was that?!" About half way home cruising at 105km/h, I all of a sudden have no throttle.:a: The truck just runs back down to an idle and I cruise to a stop. I shut it off and turn it on again, away I go everything is good,:hyper: 2kms down the road it does it again." What gives!!! So I get on the radio to Boss he phones Ford :mad2: and I take her back to town. Thing ran flawless back to town. I get there, they hook up, and sure enough it's throwing a code. Something to do with exhaust sensor the tech says, but he can't figure why it would have anything to do with the throttle cutting out. The only thing I can figure is maybe safety parameters, but I let Ford worry about it.

Needless to say, I'm still waiting for my new truck. Just thought I would share my day with all you guys and gals.

Maybe I was too hard on Ford. I hope they can get this worked out.

This isn't a thread to bash Ford, all the major 3 have all there issues with there diesels. I hope I'am not offending anyone here, as that was not my intent. I thought i would just share my day with everyone. I had my hopes up to drive this truck for quite some time now and it turned out to be a let down. I'am sure it with improve

my thoughts exactly, but I didn't pay for it. So as long as it doesn't leave me stranded somewhere on our 88 section ranch I'll be happy.

I'd have to agree with scarecrow. I really would be hesitant about taking delivery on the truck.

This is one reason that I didn't get a Ford.

I grew up Ford or Bust. I had a 7.3L PSD. If they were still putting that engine them I wouldn't have considered a CTD. Dad is still kinda pissy at me for getting my CTD.

But...

While I was hashing out if I wanted to keep my F-150, get a PSD, or a CTD I did a lot of reading and watching and listening...

I read about instances just like yours and about all the warranty work Ford was doing on the PSDs. I saw several brand new (or close to) PSDs on the side of the bypass with the hood up.

Several people I know had the CTDs and LOVED them. I just went ahead and decided to try one out. My theory at the time was I do love Fords -- they make one hot heavy duty truck. One day I will probably be back in one. I knew that if I was ever one of those people on the side of the by-pass on my way to work that I could never forgive Ford for it even though my dealer would have took extremely good care of me.

I'd love to see them get there stuff together in a few years and get another one -- but with that being said I am head over heals in love with my CTD. I can actually see myself keeping him for a long, long time.

Good luck on whatever you decide!!!

****NOTE**** I just wanted to mention that I am not bashing Fords. Like said -- I like them a lot!!!

i think the 6.4 has great potential for ford, but they need to get all the kinks worked out. like previously stated all of the big three have their problems, and in my own opinion, i will never buy anything the first year it is out, be it new body style, or engine, there is always more recalls in that first "trial" year than normal...

magram, i can understand your disapointment hopefully they get something good figured out for you. Seems like it was a good driving truck until well yah, you know.

I Agree with you on that, I wouldn't hesitate on a new body style but a new block is a different issue.
