if the rough spots are road grime use a degreaser before you buff/wax. If the truck has rough spots all over use a clay bar. I clay bar my truck about every 4 months depending on when i am going to buff/wax. using a clay bar will smooth out rough spots and make it feel smooth. do it before you buff and then look at it shine.

Wash the truck first really well, then I would claybar it. Then go over it with the buffer and heavy cut compound doing one panel at a time that way you can see what scratches come out and what didn't. Then if they're is any scratches that didn't come out, wet sand em with 1500 grit sand paper, buff, polish whole truck, then wax. Will look new.
