seems like the 1996 doesn't like starting to much in the cold, and the 1990 didn't mind it to much at all

ya my 90 even has a bad battery, the 96 has two new battrerys and a new starter and it always has a hell of a time startin below 35 degrees. Itll run rough and blow gray smoke and wont idle then it just clears up all the sudden, it has a mind of its own

I used to drive a newish 94 doge years ago hauling lumber and that thing would never start cold. We had to plug it in when it was 15 or colder. I had a 97 for a while that would not start good with only 80,000 miles on it. The VE trucks have always started much better when very cold.

my 91 starts like yours. if it will turn fast enough it will always start. my 97 starts hard but my timing is way fast. sounds like yours is too. how long has it been still you run the valves.
