Currently, I am working on a system to data log and document the VGT control. It will consist of 2 MAP (manifold air pressure) sensors that I had laying around from my old Cobalt (solely for the implementation phase of the project), and an Innovate motorsports 5 channel data logger (LMA-3). Basically, the one MAP sensor will go in the charge pipe, this will also have Intake Air Temp (IAT) capability, and the other MAP sensor will mount on the firewall. To the second MAP sensor, I will run a copper coiled line from the exhaust manifold to a rubber hose to the sensor. The copper coil will reduce the heat going to the sensor.

Here are the sensors (one on the right will sense the IAT, too):

Here is the LMA-3 that will data log the information:

This will essentially help me dial in the VGT system, but it won't be good for long, since the MAP sensors are only 2.5 BAR sensors (will read up to 22.5 lbs of boost), but it will give me an idea where to start making changes.

This will mark the first change in the VGT system, but the second will provide me the control I need to maintain the preferred boost to backpressure ratio (1:1 to 1.25:1, I think). I will control this by hooking up two air pressure regulators that will regulate how much pressure the VGT ram sees. I will be hooking the second port of the ram up to the backpressure side of the system. I will also be revising the leverage of the system, as it seems the ram wants to pull the turbine side closed when the boost kicks in... not sure why that is happening.

Figured this is something I can do for little to no money, so we'll see how it works.

I had a 91 and loved it, sold it to my buddy and he loved it sold the motor to a logger for a skidder, still running it today. you seem to be doing things right, keep up the good work.
oh and by the way a guy bought the chassis and put another engine in it and still drives it.
they were a great truck

Thanks! I am really proud of how far it has come, with a relatively tight (I use that word fairly loosely) budget.

Luckily, I only have to be nice to dad so that it can sit in his shop while I am away at school, haha. He's been nice enough to help me out while I am not there, doing some small things and all of the wood work.

Finally received the disc brake brackets for the rear of the truck:

Unfortunately, right now I am OUT of money, so pending a couple projects I have, the truck might be at a bit of a standstill as far as new progress goes. I have most of the things to finish up and get it on the road, but things like the grille, radiator support, and disc brake conversion may have to wait til I move a couple projects out. Being in college sucks, and I just quit my job to focus more on school (and because there was some BS going on at work that I can't partake in). I have managed to get the whole project done while feeling like I didn't have money, so I am sure this is only temporary.

Not much to talk about lately, dad's been working on the wood for the bed and has it over the bed, ready to drop in. Here is a horrible cell pic of that:

I will be sure to grab some pics this weekend when I am back at the shop. Only thing keeping it from being on the road at the moment are the front and rear brakes and U joints and power steering pump.
