You mean the metallic poop brown? I kinda like the color, maybe if it was clean and all I would like it even more. I was thinking about doing the metallic brown from the second gen.

So, small update from tonight (sorry no pics). I only got the pass. side fender off, then a buddy stopped by that I hadn't seen in some time, so we ended up talking the night away. I found out JCWhitney sold me the floor pan from a 72-80 truck, which DEFINITELY will not work, so I am going to have to reconcile that tomorrow. Hopefully they will just ship out another one, so I can keep shittin and gittin and hopefully get very close to done with this by Friday.

Sorry for the lack of pics, but its really not very interesting. I am sure you can all use your imagination and imagine what a **** brown truck looks like minus a fender!

Well, I will update again tomorrow! Thanks for all the interest, its really encouraging. Haven't gotten a single reply on the cummins forums

Well, got off to a late start today, but thats how I roll. Not gonna stop til this damned rocker is all welded on. Progress is going well, and i think I should have this side finished by 9pm tonight.

I did, however find a nasty little surprise... As I was cutting out the spot welds with the nifty little spot weld cutter, I pushed all the way through the cab The rust damage seems to be very localized the the very front of the cab, where the rocker and fender meet (behind them), so I think a little patch will do just fine, and I will be on my way relatively quickly.

I am getting pics today, so you will have plenty of things to look at tonight!

To the jacka$$ that did the cab corners last... &^%$#%^)@%(R*%&@**$&)^!#@*%&^!@*#$)*!#@

Thats my midday update

Well, although I didn't make as much progress as I had wished, I think I still made pretty good progress considering... I really don't know what I am doing!

Here are the pics:

Of course, before even pulling the truck into the garage I had to get everything gathered so I could maintain some sort of organization throughout the day:

Here is the start of drilling out the spot welds on the rocker panel. This took a fair bit longer than I thought it would:
DrillingouttheSpotWelds.jpg?t=1268277694

I finally got the majority of the rocker panel out:
PassSideRockerCutOff.jpg?t=1268277700

Cutting the back of the rocker panel off, I cut through this gem. A whopping 1/4" of bondo! Lol:
25inchbondoJPG.jpg?t=1268277705

And, the most time consuming part of the day... grinding the 1/4"-1/2" of bondo off the cab corner :
BondotothePinstripe.jpg?t=1268277710

Thats really all the progress I made today. I had to order a cab corner from Raybucks, it should be in Friday, then I SHOULD be able to get this side all buttoned up.

Also, when I got the door off this morning, I found this bugger :
CrackedCowl.jpg?t=1268277707

I know there is a TSB out for the cowl cracking, but none of the patch kits are available anymore. So, I think I am going to stop drill the cracks, and weld them back up. I might fold up a small patch and weld it all up on there.

And lastly, let me put in a plug for Raybucks. I had to talk to someone on the phone today, and he was extremely helpful. Though he couldn't provide me the exact info I had hoped for, he did provide me with all the measurements that he could, as detailed as possible

Whew! I'm pooped. Gonna call it an early night tonight, and go get my back fixed tomorrow so I might be able to do work without popping Ibuprofen

I am in Northwest Illinois, Sterling, to be exact. I am not afraid to drive to get anything... do you know if he has a bed?

Have fun with it all... I am having fun, though its frustrating at times. I am quite the perfectionist, so if theres a little rust somewhere, even if its surface rust, it has to go.

Well, I got off to a decent start today, and have made such good progress I have to take a break because there is nothing left to do! Pops told me the truck can't just sit in the garage, so I can't start on the other side yet :/

I am most of the way through making my patch panel for the rear of the cab. I have the patch welded on, just need to weld in a plate for the pillar to connect to. Kinda outta ideas at the moment, but I am sure I can figure something out.

I will post more pics tonight!

Matt

And, to hold you over, here is a pic of my other ride. My 2008 Cobalt SS, it sure is a fun ride!

Awesome!!! Thank you much sir. What town is it in again?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

And, this is the point where I start asking if its worth it. I know it is, I just don't know if i should get a new cab, or continue with this one... The front driver's and rear cab supports are shot. So, I will have to end up fabbing them up. The ENTIRE outside of the drivers side is rotten, so everything that the rocker would weld to is getting cut out and in need of replacement.

I think I might just put a halt to it right now, and see if I can't just pick a cab up. If anyone knows of a clean, rust free cab for a decent price, lemme know. I don't need the interior or any fenders of doors or anything, just the cab structure. I am willing to drive, but i would like to keep it within a reasonable distance.

Thanks guys!
