Ok, so what's the trick to make my headlights/foglights nice and clear? I know that the clearcoat has come off in places, and where it is gone, the plastic is turning yellow.

I remember an infomercial several years ago for a product that was supposed to fix this, but I can't remember what it was called.

Also, I did sand them down with some wet sandpaper, and it helped some, but I'd like better.

 

wet sand w/1000 grit followed by med rubbing compound then polishing compound, they clear up real nice and you can clear coat them after if you want.

or 3M has a nice kit out.. little prcey, but if you like it, you could start your own thing with it

 

I may try it out on my own, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to enjoy it that much...

My headlights were yellow/slight haze. i got some plastic polish (mothers ) and i actually used my mothers ball on the cordless drill. shined right up. but if they are real bad i would also suggest sanding them then polishing thhem. imo.

 

I used mejuires (spelling way off, but you get it) polish. Just the plan old polish before you wax and slight elbow grease. They look brand new now

 

I had a very bad fog light, and was polishing chrome with "blue magic" and said what the heck. Got it back to almost new with considerable elbow grease. Haven't tried my headlight yet, it is going yellow.... Thinking it is about time, there are nice new clear lights on the one side, and yellowed lights on the other as a result of a nice little wreck on ice a number of years ago.

 

I used Never Dull on mine and it help a lot.

 

Mothers Mag and Aluminum Wheel polish(little red and white can) and a very hard wax for afterward.Polish the lights with the Mothers and when your at the finish you desire then wax them with a good hard paste wax to ensure the finish lasts.

This was taught along time ago to me when Ma Mopar had first built the Sundances and Shadows.They were notorious for their headlights getting nasty and in a detailing seminar Mothers showed us this.It worked then and still does now on the plastic headlights........Andy

 

Nu finish works..but if they are bad..wet sand with 1000 then 2000 (to remove 1000 scratches) then some rubbing compound (usually wool pad)..3M and P&S work good..then polish (usually a softer foam pad)..this system works great, used it dozens of times..you can do it with a buffer..but if you dont have one, some elbow grease will work just fine..
