Clay Bar

clay bar. . . all i gotta say is AMAZING! i have meguires clay bar kit, love it. do my dads truck every week with it and follow that with a full inside and out detail(in exchange he lets me drive it) but you can but the kits anywhere. the wal-mart by me sells them. thats where i get all my detail stuff. and its best if you do the truck in sections so the lube for the clay dont dry and then you have to use more. i do the hood and front panels, then the drives side cab, the drivers side bed, tailgate, pass side bed, pass side cab, roof. if you do it enough the truck will be smoother than butter. and i always follow with meguires tech wax 2.0. its the best i think. and for all the guys who dont have time to sit and wax your truck, well meguires makes a "quick wax" you spray it on the tuck before or after you dry it(after being washed) and it works just as well, just doenst last as long.

that sucks! but the clay wont remove that. you will have to most likely wet sand it. the clay doesnt remove scratches, paint, tar, or bugs. it cleans the clearcoat from enviro contaniments like smoke, tree sap, stuff like that. if you run your hand over the paint after its washed and you can feel thats its sorta rough then clay bar it.

I have a clay bar and I have some overspray from when I undercoated my wheel wells...
I can use my nails while I am washing and take off the specs... Would it be a good idea to use the clay bar for this?
I bought it a while back but never used it...
I didnt realize how windy it was... I even used newpaper around the wheel wells covering 50% of the bed on each side! I still failed...

Stoner product called "Tarminator" will remove both overspray and most other paint related contaminents(tar, oil, soot, overspray, line paint).Use a Micro-Fiber towel with it and turn it over as you will pick up staiff that may scratch your paint. Then once you have removed what you want then you will need to refinish the surface with some kind of your favorite polish.
As for the clay-bar....
If you have the time to do the work,it simply is hands down the best paint prep finishing system that you can work with.it will allow a owner to then polish his vehicle with no threat of scratching the surface due to stuff in the clear coat. Many times the imperfections in the clear coat is what causes the small scratches left behind and the swirls many of us see after we detail.
The main object with a clay bar system is to keep the clay moist with your detailer and ALWAYS....ALWAYS use a micro fiber towel to wipe the vehicle down during the work.NEVER EVER use a terry towel when doing this as you stand a chance to scratch the surface when wiping the vehicle down.
ALWAYS after you clay bar a vehicle put on your favorite polish and then use a good detailer on top to enhance the shine. This will take time and may be a all day job, but, once your done the finish will show your hard work.........Andy
P.S.-Here is a shot down the left side of my truck from last Years Schied show taken by another member. My truck has NEVER has a buffer laid to it and is always prepared with a clay bar/polish/detailer system before every show.Keep in mind now when you look at this shot that my truck, when this was taken last year, was a 190k daily driver here in Central PA and it IS driven all Winter long and NOT garage kept. Its now over 200k and just netted me another trophy at a local show against alot of show only trucks.

I used the clay bar + other products from Zaino
Z-18 ClayBar: Zaino Store
I clayed an older 95 Chevy Tahoe 4x4 and my wifes Buick Century. Made both of them very pretty, but that was a ton of work.
Guess its about time to do it to my Ford.
