Default NTC 444 Water in oil

I'm sure I know the answer but I'll ask anyway. I was told that it the oil was changed and all was fine until it come up to temp. and the thermostat opened and then water filled the pan fast. Can someone tell me how water got in the oil pan. Head gasket, liner?? The motor still runs fine other than that. No noise or rattles or anything else out of the ordinary.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

on the cummins they are notorious for head gaskets since it really didnt happen til the thermostat opened than i would expect the gasket you may even get lucky and only do one out of i believe three heads
