Default Electrical trouble

After disconnecting my batteries for a couple of hours and then reconnecting them, when I try to start my truck, nothing happens with the starter. The dash says push clutch and start, my truck is an automatic, there is also a red light flashing on the speedometer that I’ve never seen before.
I have tried two different scanners to check for trouble codes but neither one will connect to my truck.
Any ideas?
I’ve been told I need to have bypass cables for the scanner, but I thought that was only for changing things.
Batteries test good and are only two months old. The truck will not even jump start.
All electronics work except for starting.
