cummins to GM transmission adapter plate

cummins to GM transmission adapter plate
I have a 99 Cummins 6BT that I want to install in my Chevy Silverado long bed 4 door 1 ton 2wd pickup.
It has the turbo 400 tranny (automatic) with a 454 engine.
I have heard that you can use an adapter plate to mount the engine to the existing tranny and drive train.
Will the 400 tranny hold up to this engine?
Will it work "just bolted in"?
Will rpms match up so it knows when to shift,
etc, or will the tranny need to be modified in some way to accomodate the new engine?
I am a serious cash buyer,
this truck MUST become diesel,
as gas prices and mileage in that 454 are not feasible to operate it.
My name is Cliff, myphone number is 707-450-8167, call me anytime if you have solutions that I need to make this happen, Thanks
