Default 96 F250 Powerstroke upgrades?

Folks, I'm ready to get a 1996 F250 Powerstroke from a friend who is ordering a new truck. He has used the truck for 209k,as a work truck. Most notably, he spent 3500 dollars at ford dealer ,not long ago on an injector replacement job.He has new batteries, glow plugs, alternator etc. The motor has no mods at all. It is the manual trans. I want to do value conscious mods.Having read a bit, I figured the intake could be improved with the cut pipe ,the big NAPA filter[6637?],and a filter sock, set up from RiffRaff. Next, I thought I'd need to get a fesh downtube and exhaust. I'm not sure what would give me the most bang for the buck, there. Then possibly gauges. I hope I'm on the right path. Feel free to chime in. This is my second diesel. My first love was a 97 12v Cummins ,that was stock and still gained speed all the way up the mountain into Asheville,N.C, and whipped all the gas small blocks along the way. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Diesel Bombers... You are on the right track... Intake and exhaust are necessary mods... Exhaust is exhaust, just find the best price and run with it... The important thing with our exhausts is getting rid of the stock downpipe which is about as flat as a pancake and replacing it with a 3" round downpipe. Gauges are also important especially if you will be towing... Sounds like your getting the truck with a lot of new parts on it too which is good.

Default powerstroke mods

Thanks for getting back- I am on the right course,it looks. The only other thing I think I might afford is a Wildman chip. The setting for daily, and or tow, look real appealling considering I want better performance, and I do tow material trailer from time to time.

Any TS style chip will do you fine. I enjoy the tunes from Tony Wildman. Haven't had any issues with them and ran them for over a year... A performance tune will gain you about 60hp because your stock injectors are limited...
