Default 1st Diesel, '03 6.0 opinions wanted!

Hey guys, I gotta say Im a fan of the site. I currently own, maintain, and insure a 2002 nissan sentra spec v and a 99 cherokee (a driving headache, and constant money pit)
But anyway, I work full time and was looking to replace both vehicles with a 2003 f250 with a 6.0. Its a single cab long box, about 189k miles. It has a 6 speed manual, and the guy whos selling says its a texas truck (which is a big deal for those of us who live in the northern states ). He says it was owned by a town for most of its life to about 180k miles. He claims to have all of the service records, etc and says it was well maintained. He also says he just took it in to have new injectors put in and have a tune up done, about $3400. Anyway, Im looking to get rid of both my vehicles and replace them with a fun daily driver that I can make faster/more fun to drive over time. How would this fit the bill? Do you guys think that with the "good maintainance" it would be more reliable than everyone makes the 03 6.0 sound? Reliability is paramount here, and I would plan on doing an EGR delete and head studs down the road.
Hes askin $9800 for it, do you guys think this is a good deal? The body is clean with the frame having some surface rust and the fender having a little damage.
Thanks!

I see almost twice as many 03/04 trucks as I do 05-07 trucks in the shop.

You probably see more 03's because they're also the oldest of the bunch. They did have the best EGR cooler of all of them, but there were a LOT of changes between the 03 and early 04 motors going into 05-07, and not just motor stuff, chassis stuff too. Doesn't sound like a terrible deal though, just know what you're getting yourself in to. Go read around the 6.0 section a bit and see for yourself. It could be a great truck. Talk to papachuck on here, he's got an 03 with about the same miles, had a race tune loaded up for the last 80k or something ridiculous and has done nearly nothing to it...

I would run from a 03 ford with a 6.0 in it. That is first design and a headache of a engine. Im work on fords and if you want a 6.0 go with a later design like late 04 and up.
