Default IPR or HPO Pump? or something else?

Was driving away from the fuel pump a couple weeks ago and started to go up a hill, My back tired lost traction a little bit and then, poooooof! the motor stalled and wouldnt restart. I was week in the knowledge of oil changes for my truck at the time and I have about 8K miles on regular 15W-40, I checked everything electrical, including the FICM. Tried pulling the ICP (no resolution), I read all kinds of threads about the HPOP. I took out the HPOP and the IPR, cleaned it all out real good, put it all back together and wham! the thing is running. However, It is running like CRAP! It starts and idles normal for a few moments, then the RPM's jump to about 1,000 and it sounds like it's misfiring and the exhaust sounds like a potato gun firing off. Almost like it has a lope to it. The only thing I really cleaned out well was the IPR, now I am trying to figure out why it started again, but is running like junk. Any clues? Thanks!!!!
