Wanting a 12v might have to settle for 24
I found a 1995 reg cab long bed 2500 4x4 with a 5 speed(210,000 mi). Man I want it soo bad but I don't think I can come up with the cash in time. I want a 12v for the ease of bumping up performance and doing it cheaper along with the better lift pump they have(which was recently replaced). But the used car dealer by my house is getting a mid to late 90s 6spd cummins from out of town and he said he will finance. By the way the guy wants 6k for the 12v I'm not sure what the dealer wants for the six speed yet and he is not sure of the exact year. So what I'm getting at is- are there 12v trucks with a six speed from the factory or does that mean that it is a 24v if it has a six speed? Thanks.

Would I be giving up alot of performance by going with the 24 over the 12 as far as hp per dollar on mods? And is 210,000 mi to many to start modding a 12v ie- fuel plate, better exhaust ,boost elbow, gsk, timing adjustments, kdp .... I of course will have the pyro gauge, boost gauge. Thanks

Tax return money!!! Whew 12v it is. So it has 210,000 highway miles, they rebuilt the front end so the steering is like new and it got a lift pump a few months ago. It is a 95' 4x4 long bed reg cab 2500. So with over 200,000 miles on it should I be wary of the fuel plate, afc, mods ? It is also the 5 speed !!!

Ok so the manual Trans 96' 12v deal fell through. I test drove it and it ran pretty rough. Anyhow I found a 95 12v with a supposedly fresh auto in it (7,000 miles). I have been reading that stock autos can't take to much more power than a stock 12v makes. I also read somewhere about Dropping the pan and filter and turning the line pressure up a bit (2 turns) and that is suppose to help handle some more abuse. So aside from gauges what mods do you think I can do before smoking the Trans?
