We are checking the '03-'05 Excursion Diesels out and the wife really likes the '05 Limited's front end and headlights, but I worry about mechanical issues because we've never owned any diesel. What are some red flags to watch out for at test drive?

i was really looking at excursions for a while before i got my dmax, but i found that the 7.3s are still expensive even with 200k miles, and i coudl'nt justify spending that kind of money on a 10-12 year old truck, while the 6.0 was about the same price. then i thought, "well, maybe i'll consider a 6.0 even though i've heard all the horror stories". eventually though, i just couldn't talk myself into the problem ridden 6.0. So, i went back to a pickup truck even though i don't really need one.

 

Let's be fair, the 6.0's have more than their share of problems but many are out there problem free...

You might want to get an OASIS report on the truck, that should tell you the history on it...

Also, keep in mind, you can upgrade the 99-03 trucks with the 05-07 front end...
