Need knowledge on the big three please
Thank you now for you time, I am helping my family farming operation to decide on a service truck. We won't be moding this it will be stock. We need durability, reliability.
It will be drivin by all kinds of employees in hard conditions.
We are comfortable with the 7.3, but unless i am mistaken, they were ended in 03 (were they offered in a 550 or 650 more recent) so even if the engine can be reliable after 8 years, i don't know if the truck would be reliable enough. So we are open to others. We don't want a truck with a particulate filter. So if someone can tell me witch years and witch makes had them it would be very helpful info to me to know witch year i can eliminate. I have also heard negative thinks about all the EGR that is pumped back into the engine is it true that the 2010-11 have alot less EGR because of the DEF systems. Thanks again for your input.

In my honest opinion go with a newer 5.9L Cummins, but they ended in 07, and 07.5 is when the 6.7 with the DPF started. and I'm not sure when powerstroke started thier DPF but Duramax also started in 07-08 with the DPF, but even a duramax would be a good work truck but i would lean towards the cummins.

I wouldnt go any newer than an 03 7.3 with the Ford.
An 03-07 5.9 Cummins would be good, but be wary of injectors on them. Its not a real prominent problem, but it still happen. DPF's started on the Cummins in 07 with the 6.7.
With GM, an 06-07 LBZ Duramax would also be a good option. The 01-04 LB7's had injector problems, 04-05 LLY's had overheating and head gasket problems, and the DPF's started in 07 with the LMM.
