??? how can i tell
Hello,
Newely divorced woman inherites a 2002 dodge 24v deisel... i have no idea where to start first. When Im driving down the road, ie. say i would be going 60 it sometimes dogs out. also when I pass it does the same thing. Does anybody know if this sounds like a injector pump, lift pump, fueling valve, plunger, or transfer pump issue. I have no idea If ive even said the same thing twice. Ive jst been reading on all of this. Spring rodeo season is right around the corner and I would feel a whole lot better getting this fixed before I blow the whole truck up.

A bit of advice, Learn as much as you can, some shops may try to take you because you might not know enough, you dont want to end up paying for a lot of parts you don't need if it ends up being a fuel filter or a lift pump, be careful with driving a 24v with a bad lift pump because it will starve the injection pump and it can burn it out
Get it scanned first, you will have a better handle on the situation then
just remember, READ READ READ, Research as much as you can, the more you know the better chance you have of getting it fixed right the first time!

I have owned a fleet of Dodge truck and it was running bad just like you are talking about. took it to a dealer and he said that my 95 gallon Aluminum fuel tank in the bed rusted and contaminated the injectors and it was going to cost me around 3000. I told my guy to drive my truck from Ky to Al and I put a fuel filter in it and it ran like new. And my warranty was voided by this dealer saying this in the comments

Since your truck is a '02, you can do the key trick, on, off, on, off, on, leaving the key on, look in the odometer window and write down any codes that pop up. If you get a P dOnE and an E dOnE, then you have no codes. If there are any, post them up and we can help you with them.
I also second having the oil changed, fuel filter changed, etc. do a general maintanence on the truck, that way you know when they were last changed.
