Well.. It all has to do with what makes you happy. If you want to spend 11,000 dollars on a pickup then mod it to 400-500 WHP, a 98 to 2002 cummins would work better for you, Because it would be easy and cheaper to do.. With a tst Powermax3 tuner you can get 160 more RWHP. not bad a. The cummins would take more then a chip to get there to. But if you want to go with the 7.3L in the new Body stile I would go with the early 99 to 2001 Ford. They have forged rods, But it takes more money to make that kind of HP. You would need to do injector to get that kind of HP, 238cc Hybrids 80% or 100% nozzles with good tuning and good turbo and good mods would get you to 450 to 500 HP easy, But it just costs more. I do not know anything about the Dmax engines. I would not buy one That is just my .02 cents. Personly i would go with the Ford. But hey it is up to you What ever makes you happy. Is what you should go with. The 7.3L and 5.9L or both good engines. they are both the best and most reliable engines you can get in a pickup. you wont go wrong with easer of them.

duramax is going to be the cheapest to get to the power levels you desire and they're all good engines, they can all last a million miles it just depends on how you take care of them, if you want 500 hp out of a powerstroke don't think it's going to be all that reliable and last that long, it's the nature of the beast, the cummins and duramax's are way more reliable at those horsepower levels, some people will argue, but they're in denial, because you see alot more guys running around in their cummins or duramax pushing over 500hp as an everyday driver, and quite frankly you don't see that very often with fords, I know one guy with a 7.3 pushin 478 hp that drives it everyday, he's also the head mechanic at a diesel shop so he can fix it when it breaks, and it does break, they all will break I just think the cummins can take the added power way better and the duramax is also way more capable of handling that amount of power without an insane amount of money dumped into it

OK here I go DURAMAX bad injectors ( they will leak & blow your engine) Waterpump failure TRANNY won't handle more than 75 HP over stock, IFS weak (Will wear & always need alingement on 4X4. CUMMINS WEAK TRANNY, PISTON PIN will slide out damaging the cylinder, WEAK body. POWERSTROKE CPS are known to go to crap( Must always have a spare) MOST expensive to make high performance, worst MPG out of the three.

Worst MPG???My 7.3L will get 17.5 to 18.5mpg at 70, And 16.5 to 17mpg at 80, and at 65 i get 19.5 to 20mpg. It gets better mpg then ANY cummins that i have seen. all my friends that have cummins can barely get the same mpg at 65 that i make at 75... maybe all seven of them just got bad engines And i have 4:10 Gears at 70 my RPMs are 2475

My 1999 F-250 7.3 PSD EXTRA-CAB LOBG-BED would only give me 15.5 MPG

Go Duramax. Injector problems were limited to Lb7's, water pumps aren't known to fail more than any other motor, My tranny puts up with a 520 rwhp EFI live tune everyday at 140,000 miles, just gotta baby 5th gear on the max effort tune, and my IFS handles repeated 25 psi boosted launches with 33x13" tires on nice sticky asphalt. Powerstrokes are really hard to get power out of, 6.4 excluded. Cummins is a great motor wrapped in a shitty truck, for the most part.
