Default Excursion 6.0 Do or Die?

OK, so 2004 diesel excursion full leather DVD all that lifted a little high mileage 122,000...Living in California they are saying they can do 24k out the door.

My question

A would you burn it or buy it? For any price is this thing just going to be a great big suck..or is there a chance it will be reliable and make a little fun power? I want the 7.3 but my financing will only let me go back to 2003 and that year...well I'd assume that year would be even worse.

Feedback links to really cool 6.0's so I'm not terrified of this thing sucking a turbo, blowing a head gasket or eating a piston in week 1.

Do you own a 6.0 and like it!? speak up if you do

DO you own a bombed out 6.0 that makes power and lives!! I REALLY want to hear from you because I do have a proclivity towards irresponsibility when it comes to engine modification.

I've heard some good things about the 6.0 but not very many

the reason being is happy people don't get online and talk about how great their vehicle is most of the time, that being said, with any vehicle there are going to be inherent problems, if it has been lifted there's going to be parts on it that are stressed more than need be, for example the transmission, transfer case, axles, engine possibly, etc, after going through what i've went through with my truck i'd be hesitant to ever lift a vehicle and have it as a daily driver again, however ford makes a good vehicle and my main concern with the 6.0 would be head studs

You won't find an excursion cheaper. Frankly I'm surprised he's not asking more. 6.0's last forever. Do head studs and egr. A tuner exhaust and intake and you'll get close to 20mpg highway with an auto, and around 380-400hp. With the lift maybe a tick less

well I know one that has 425k on it, but it's blown up now, completely stock it's whole life, it's an 05 F-350 that was used to pull around camp trailers, so it's original engine made it that far, i bet there's a few out there with more miles, but at the very minimum do the head studs and egr cooler delete, there are systems out there that don't require a programmer to function code-less, but a moderate SCT tune and you'd be fine for a couple hundred thousand miles i'm sure, but keep up on the oil changes, reason behind that is the HEUI injection system and it's ran off of oil pressure and if you run it low or have bad oil it can harm the whole injection system

Moderately lifting a vehicle alone (I'm talking 3-4" or less) isn't going to stress out vehicle components to any noticeable degree. But, the larger tires and rolling mass will (). Check the history on the truck and see what you can find out about the driver/owner? Kid or old church lady sort of thing. Maintenance records? Have it checked out by a competent diesel tech familiar with the 6.0. If your're happy, go with it BTW-there's an Excursion specific section on this forum now in case you're interested

The 6.0 is a great motor. Very fast for not a lot of money and great mileage outta them. I'd buy it. I've been wanting a eddie bauer excursion 6.0 6spd for a long time now but they are wayyy to expensive.
