another new guy... lol
i was in need of some help, i am going to be hauling horse trailers and hay wagons... ranch stuff and i am in need of help to decide what to get ? i know i want a CUMMINS for sure but idk what liter or year or anything like that... i dont want anything too old or new because i know the 2010 emissions suck and mpg is not the greatest.. so any help would be greatly appreciated

98.5 and older cummins are 12v. 98.5 and newer are 24V. well they both are good engines. I would not go with the 6.7L cummins. I would stay with the 5.9L They are a better engine. I think the 6.7L is 2007 and up...?? And if you want to pull i would go with the stick shift. Dodge autos are not very good. That is just my .02 cents.

12v's are terribly easy to mod and get great mileage. 24v's are electronic and more expensive to mod. Plus the 2k dollar lift pump goes out all the time on them. But they also get better mileage, better interiors and opening rear ext cab doors.
But I recommended a common rail which is 'technically' a 24v, but comes in 2003.5+

thanks for all the help... i do want to blow smoke once and awhile idk what adds you have to do.. i know ppl have said 12v smokes more if you "turn it up" cause of the p7100 pump or dump valve. but all that smoke gums up the motor ? idk this is why i joined this form to figure out stuff about diesels.. or do you just buy a programmer..
