If you are going off road at all take a close look at the chevy the def tank is in a stupid place under the passenger floor board I worry about dragging it all the time I work in the oil field and they are great trucks that has been the only worry so far I probably would not have bought it I had a choice other supervisors have the new ford diesels and there is not a real notice able difference in power they will bouth pull a 108 thousand pound frac pump sixty miles and they never got hot and keep up speed better than the Kw T800 in the hills these trucks idle for at least 18hrs a day on location so I hope this help's.Sam

Really Car and Driver? The magazine that knows jack about trucks? Go dyno both trucks. I bet my next pay check they are alot closer than you think. There is a difference between what the motor produces to what makes it to the ground. I really cant believe that someone on Diesel Bombers quoted car and driver Now that thats out of the way. Yes the Duramax will make 500hp alot easier than a Cummins. EFI live is an awesome tuning tool. The Duramax will also have alot better auto than the Dodge. The older Dodges is where the falling apart came from. I never had an issue with my 6.7 and I still dont have any issues with my 2000 5.9. The earlier Dodges up until 98 or so had a problem with paint fading and the trucks rusting because for some reason Dodge though it was a good idea to paint the whole truck assembled and then not seal the undercarriage to prevent rust. All that went away after 1999 so the newer trucks dont fall apart like the old ones do. If you do go Cummins I would 6 spd instead of a auto. The Dodge autos dont like100hp over stock or more. So both trucks have good and bad. Pick what you like and what you feel comfortable with.

If your talking a 2011 or 2012 go GM hands down.A Cummins is a great motor, theres more to a truck than motor.
