Question New to Diesel Trucks, which to buy?

Good Morning,
I know this is an old topic for some, however I am in the market for my first Diesel truck. I have been around them, worked on some, read tons of horror stories, etc. I have some experience but im looking for guidance from folks that bleed diesel. I travel for work, my family is growing and I have a few toys that require trailering, 4wheelers, jeeps, camper, etc. I am looking at years 2015 - 2017, considering an F250, 2500HD, and/or the dodge Ram 2500 for pulling camper/quad combo across states for fun with family as well as pulling my camper (30ft) across the country for work. Naturally I don't have a lot of time for repairs and im certain my wife might get a bit upset if she had to spend to much time on the side of the road with 3 kids and two BIG dogs HA! So..... which truck do I buy?????????? From my past experience of the three manufactures, Cummins comes to mind for durability and Torque. My grandfather sported a 1995 3500 and put 384,xxx miles on his truck with just a few front ball joint problems and the interior falling all around him. The new dodge seems to be holding up much better. As for GM (government motors) Im still mad that they took that bail out. The Allison transmission is tough but I feel GM likes to cover their engines with an abundance of unnecessary generic garbage for emissions and other junk that continually causes check engine lights to come on, forcing drivers to take their vehicle to repair shops, and draining their bank accounts. Now the FORD. I have an uncle that still sports a 2000 7.3 He has had very little problems. Now the new fords are totally different machines. Nice looking trucks, Im just not real certain of fords capability to provide that much power and longevity in the same package??????? With all of that said, for all makes and models, this darn DEF junk kills me!!!!!! I come from a world where moisture in exhaust streams causes major issues!!!!! I really dislike DEF systems however it the way it is, for now. Which truck do I buy for longevity, moderate work, and family fun??
Almost forgot to mention I owned a 2004 chevy 1500 once. I know this isnt the same vehicle but it was one big POS. It was Sweet looking, highway queen, but in the shop constantly!!! after the 2nd transmission in one month, I traded it in on a Tundra, put 392,XXX miles on it and never had one problem with it!
Thank you all.

If you can find a really nice older ford super duty with a 7.3 PS, that would be sweet. I'm also in the market for an older ford PS dually with the 7.3. However, ya cant beat the Dodge for its pulling power and durability..Stay away from the ford 6.0 PS as they are problematic to say the least. I will admit tho, that the 6.0 is a beast and can be made to be one hell of a power plant, but you will spend a butt-load of cash to get it there. My neighbor has a 2016 Ford Platinum F350 SRW with the 6.7 PS, and it always in the shop. Boy, he regrets buying it. I cant give insight on the ford PS 6.4 tho. Do your research carefully. I have a 2006 Dodge 5.9 cummins dually, and its been the BEST truck Ive ever owned. Ive had the 2000 Duramax, and 2003 Power Stroke duallies trucks, and both failed me miserably when they were new.....back then. Not sure about the much newer trucks. Good Luck and Welcome to DB.

Thanks Bigg Redd, I really appreciate the information. Ive been leery of the FORD Gas and Diesel. And ever since my experience owning the one chevy half ton, Ive been scared to buy another one.
