Default First diesel truck

I am in the market for a new truck. I've considered a gas truck, but it seems like the Ford gas trucks are kinda problematic with manifold studs and cam phasers. I've also heard that repairs on Dodge hemis are fairly spendy. Chevy gas engines seem like they are overall the better of the three. I do pull trailers every so often, and one of my neighbors said he got 10 or 11 mpg pulling a boat with a 5.3 chevy. I want a truck that will pull trailers easily and not get terrible mileage while doing it. I also would need enough cab space for 6 people so it has to be a crew cab. I'm leaning towards a pre-2007 cummins due to reliability of the cummins engine and that it doesn't have the emissions equipment. What do you guys recommend? Would the cummins be a good first diesel?

As stated I would agree you are on the right track to get to where you need to be.
