Default Land Rover Disco Diesel...??

anyone here know about these things at all? I'm interested in options for a 2004 Discovery. I've heard there's a pretty desirable inline diesel in a lot of the Land Rovers, just don't know much about it.

OK GUYS, I had a 1995 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 3.9, with the 5 speed manuel tranny, Excellent off-roader, but I was only getting 13.5 MPG in the city, You won't be able to get a DIESEL DISCO in the USA, but I hear that ONE mite be offered soon????

yeah I didn't specify it's a non-US model, it's offered in the european/mideast/african countries. I've heard it's fairly common for guys to import the engines from europe and I'm trying to find info on it. the gasser V8 is pluggin along at about 13mpg on this '04.

I have a '95 Discovery with a Land Rover 300TDI (2.5l inline 4) turbo diesel in it, the drivetrain was brought over from the UK.

What'd it take to get the drivetrain from the UK? And I guess there's no way to get that smogged legally, is there?

Shipping from the UK isn't that difficult to arrange, although I bought the truck with the drivetrain installed from a guy in FL who brings over Rover parts from the UK in 40ft containers all the time. At least in NC, regardless of year diesels are not smogged.
