i sold a hot tub i had forsale this week and i im buying a XJ that dosent run, it ran when the car lot parked it and now they cant figure out whats wrong with it, they got 1,900 in it and are going to sell it to me for 500 to get it off the lot......oh and the sales man is the guy i sold the hot tub too........we've only bought like 8 cars off him.....

Yup , big ouch, learned how to change ball joints with a hammer and a 22mm wrench that day, we drug it out of the woods without the driver side inner/outer axle ( aka no 4x4) I drug him up the hill backwards until he would get turned around , and then i drug him all the way to paved road , with the cummins ( notice the broken exhaust in the back , damn ruts....



The suspension on that cherokee is almost completely home built, by me , including adjustable long arms, adjustable track bar with dropped frame end mount, 6" drop pitman arm drop ( made one arm out of two , since I have an oven at work for heating and cooling cast to be welded) LONG coils , and some custom spacers, lengthened driveshafts, T case drop , Ram 2500 front flex lines ( they were the longest ones in the book at napa) 6" rear shackles, with some extra leafs in the stock pack from a 1500 chevy ( different arch, gives about 4 more inches)

We are up against a wall right now, the parking brake cables are TIGHT, without even flexing the suspension, and the "frame" is starting to rot out in alot of places , it's only a matter of time until it folds up like a tin can.

It's still got the stock chrysler 8.25 in the back (miller lockered), and stock dana 35 front. Sitting on 34x10.5x15 swamper LTB's. stock 4.0 HO and AW4 trans , NP 231 T case.

Sorry if I got long winded. reading back through this , it;s no wonder my own jeep is sitting in the back corner in the shop with crap piled over/around it , with flat tires , and no floor...

Heres mine, its an 86 chevy with a very built 400 small block, 6" lift, 35" tires on steel alloy rims, 3/4 ton axle swap and its for sale

 

If it cranks and just won't start, my guess would be the crank position sensor. Common problem on older XJs

I don't remember exactly which year, but the YJ parking brake cables will work for what you need. If you want I can find out for you.

I'm in the process of doing tubular flares on mine. I just swapped out the radiator for a 2 core & put a detroit locker in the front axle, rear has a spool.
