Default bumper

has anybody made their own heavy duty bumper. was is hard? where do i get started? are there plans for these anywhere? im just a poor college kid that wants to have a bumper but doesnt want to pa through the nose for it.

you could always try and make one like mine. i dont have the schematics. if you want some more pics of mine i can get them to ya, i could even take some meausrements for ya cause im a nice guy like that, even though your a deere fan.

man that kids bumper is great looking ill have to take some notes on how he put it all together. its pretty much exactly what i want.

I have a couple of links on my other computer. Will try to fine them when I get home.

Also ask member GRI - he made some great looking bumpers for his 2 nd gen. he might still have a link for ya - I think it was on Pirate4x4.com

Dang, that kid did an awesome job. I wish I was that talented. I have a home made bumper, but I didn't build it. It's made of .25" and .50" steel plate, heavy as hell. I can't lift it on my own, I use my transmission jack to move it around. I just paid a small fortune to have it rhino-lined so it will be going on my new truck.

I built this my senior year in high school. Way cheaper than I was expecting when I totaled everything up. Not quite done but only $160 in materials to get it where its at now. Still need to do headlight guards, fill the gap below the grille and on the sides.

i'm in the process of building one for my f-250. it's not hard to do at all.just take your time when you measure the front of your truck so it fits good. i have heard of guys biulding a mock bumper out of wood first to make sure it fits and looks the way they want it and then build it out of steel so you know exactly what it will look and fit like when done.if you look in my album there is a pic or two of the shell.

thats the one i made. start at the frame and work ur way out. make the mounts first and keep everything spaced evenly. mine is bolted to the frame using same bolts that hold the front spring hangers to the frame. 4 bolts on each side. then 8 inch channel to make main frame. the d-ring mounts come threw from the backside with a 3x3 steel plate welded to them then to the bumper. beveled the ends and added the upper tubing for looks but it ended up being alot stronger than i thought it would.


only thing i see with the bumper that kid built on the site posted is the little filler peices he put on up to the headlights are to close to the lights. when frames twist the bumper moves seperate from body. i bet they will hit and possible break the light.
