Kinda looks like a Mark V without the radar tower....but not exactly. Pretty cool.

 

I'm well aware of that jerky. Read my post again. They will not update an old boat with a "new" jet drive system when it has been proven reliable for many years ya knucklehead. I AM speaking da ingles.

That is much larger than a Mark V and has a smaller cockpit. Looks like the new Mark VI to me.

 

i dunno what it is pretty cool though... i was told by some people that work there that it was experimental??

the Rooster and the liberity are both owned by john malone. he owns boothbay region boat yard among other things. he's on the list for one of the worlds righest people.

they just re powered the rooster with twin diesels.

I didn't know that just because a boat went back to the yard that it automatically got new drives.....(why do I even try making sense with Navy people....it never works)



They share a lot of similarities but it's definitely not the same boat. I have a sweet Mark V pic but it's too big to attach and I can't host it...DD if I send it to ya can you figger it out?

I've got lots of pics of me and EOD MU8 doing exersizes in the Mediterranean with the Mark V and Zodiacs. I'll see if I can get them scanned and upload them.

 

OK...here is the info I was just given by an EOD buddy that is still in. That is the new Mark VI but it is still based on the Mark V platform. They stretched it 8ft and added 1ft to the width, relocated everything on the deck and gave it a slightly more cockpit forward design. That boat you are seeing bow is the experiment they are running on the new composite hull design. The Mark V's would beat the hell out of you on moderate wave hit to the tune of 5 g's. The new boat is using a composite hull with relocated spars and a waterbed/foam core to lessen the impact. The length and width change was implemented to provide more stability with the lighter hull. So basically what we are looking at is a Mark V that is larger and lighter with a composite hull.

 

any idea what it's powered by?

The Mark V's used twin MTU 12-cylinder TE94 diesel engines with the two K50S water jets. Not sure what they will use on the new one but I'm willing to bet they stay with the same power plant and drive train but updated with the new technology. That package was really reliable and provided a helluva punch. Easy on maintenance too.
