Default Navistar and Ford reach an agreement to end engine supply

Transport Topics Online | Navistar Settles With Ford; <br>To End Diesel Engine Accord

Navistar International Corp. and Ford Motor Co. said they have settled litigation and ended a diesel-engine supply agreement.

The two will end their diesel engine supply agreement at the end of this year, but will continue to collaborate on initiatives including their existing Blue Diamond Truck and Parts joint ventures, Navistar said late Tuesday.

The companies will still work together in a joint venture that sells Ford F-650 and F-750 medium duty trucks, Navistar said.

Navistar makes International brand trucks.

hmm....
that's huge news, but I'm not surprised. Ford was really pissed off with Navistar, it's basically like a divorce. Can't stop fightin', find a new partner. Counselling didn't work (supreme court) so I guess they took the high road . I just hope the new engine supplier will make an engine as good as the 7.3 was. That really is the only Powerstroke I would swear by. I was a huge fan until the 6.0 came out. It's too bad it had to end like this though

Cat is getting out of the on road engines all together after 2010, its not that we can not conform to the new EPA standards, the profit on those small engines is not high enough to invest the money in R&D to meet the EPA tier 2 emissions. We are teaming up with Navistar for on road engines in the future, for the time being. I have a feeling, and have heard rumors that CAT will return to making on road diesels in the future but have no clue if it will really happen, I can not see CAT giving up its market share in this application indefinitely.

The new Ford scorpion is a V8 engine and I doubt they will ever make an I6 motor, I also have a hunch that even Cummins will in the next 10 years, probablly less, do away with the I6 motor for the light truck application, they already have a 5.0L v8 coming out this year or next in the 1/2 ton RAM.

You was your mouth out with soap! But you might be right....

And yes Cat is not outa the market yet for sure, they didn't wanna build a tweener motor to bridge the gap between the regs now and the next newest emissions regs while they developed the new motor that meets the newest regs....
