Too bad they won't be aviable in the US, once again Europe gets a great diesel sipper.

They are the test markets... From the looks of it I would not want one...

Its because there are to many tree huggers here that think diesels are smelly and loud. Look at what the EPA has done, that a perfect example. Most Americans just dont realize the potential of a diesel engine so there isnt enough of a market here.

another issue is that the US has the most strict emissions standards for diesels in the world, so there has to be extra money spent to make it work for US emissions

the new smart car would be getting 70 MPG if US allowed them to put the 3 cylinder diesel they sell in europe but it did not pass US emmisions so if got stuck with a small gasser engine that gets 38 MPG and makes less horespower than my passat.

my passat goes faster has a lot more room and happens to get better MPG to the tune of 43 on the highway
