Hey guys just changed my oil and went to the Mobil full synthetic 5-40. Since i have been in the oil business, i have learned alot about oil and power service additives. Just wondered if any one else has done the same.

Hey akchevyman, I am a exxon mobil/conoco phillips distributor and not to sound down on amsoil, but they use a mobil base stock. Look me up i can save you about $120 on your next oil change with a full synthetic that beats amsoil on all certs. By the by don't run it for 50,000 to 100,000 miles. no oil is that good. once soot laiden, it degrades.

Good info! I think I'm going to switch to synthetic tranny, and diff fluid when they are ready for a change and I build my tranny. My motor will get delo 15w40. Used it for a while now and I really like it.

I went from dino 15W40 last winter and switched it to 5W40 synthetic. Now I'm back to dino 15W40. I've read that the PSD advances the timing considerably upon cold starts expecting a 15W oil in there. The 5W40 is much thinner and causes pre injector firing which scores the cylinder heads. I'm thinking about going with a 15W40 synthetic blend.

sorry mechelement, you may have some bad info. Bieng a full synthetic, you have a gazillion ( a bit of an exaggeration but you get the drift) times more protection with a syn rather than a regular oil. Also, the 5w part increases viscosity as the truck warms to a 40w. so the easy pumping, fast priming, is a plus on cold starts. with the powerstroke's oil fed injectors, the full synthetic lighter oil makes less work on them. As for the timing, i may be waaay off but dont you need spark plugs and a distributor? With cam and crank sensors, the computer cant fire an injector prematurely before the sensor crosses the magnet? can it? It relies on it..never heard of that one. I know that with the older engines when it gets down to -20ish some injectors plunger will stick, causing a knock. But after working up at tamarack resort, and not plugging my truck in at -20 i never had 1 problem. The bottom line is, a FULL SYN is not bad even with a 5-40. Now the new cars are using 0-20! crazy eh..
