especially if they are driving a convertable. I don't hate on the ricers, just the ones that are dicks. The ones that drive down streets with houses and schools, like they are driving on the freeway. Or ones that are weaving in and out of rush hour traffic, in a pos car that you just spray painted black and cut off the muffler. So now that you sound loud and "look" cool, you have to drive like your in a Indy race everywhere you go. I let those people know what I think of them with my exhaust pipe.

If you think about it, as tuners, Ricers (the good kind) and Diesel enthusiast are after the same thing...... Getting the most out of the veichles we have.

Ive heard this over and over again. There is a bunch of ricers that hangout in my 'ol town and they thought they were untouchable. Until we decided enough was enough and gave them a race. When their little hotwheels got their doors blown off by a +700 cummins they didnt talk smack anymore. I just laugh at 'em when they try to tell me all this stuff is wrong with my truck.

A diesel that smokes is not broken. Obviously guys who run smoke tunes are ruining it for us but show me a truck engine with 200,000 plus miles that does not smoke even a little bit. A VGT is not an instant spooling turbo. Does it spool faster than a fixed vane turbo? yes. Is is instant? not at all.

Id rather stick to my waste gate and fixed vane, VGT do not seem to last nearly as long as a fix, is it a efficient design yes it is, im sure like you said in the next decade thell be the future time will tell My truck hardly smokes even when I get on it, maybe at first when the RPMs start to come up it burps out a lil but. Just the way I like it Im burnin all my Diesel, which means HORSEPOWER!!!

I don't see any modifications in those two engines that are meant to make huge power over stock, and I bet they are not completely smokeless under load. A diesel engine that smokes is not broken like you imply. If it really was broken, it would not run anymore. So are you saying that diesel trucks, tractors, and construction equipment from the 40s to 60s with natural aspiration were broke? I am around construction equipment and gravel trucks all day that are in perfect operating condition and smoke under some kind of load and later clear up. So you just said they aren't instant spool yourself. You said as close as they can be. I'm just trying to prove my point that diesels can smoke and be in perfect working order, and VGT turbos are not instant spooling.

Behold, the almighty expert has returned. Our new equipment is under Cat extended warranty. That means Cat has a maintenance program set up for it, maintains it, and gets SOS oil samples on every service, and then rebuilds the major components at 10,000 hours. So that must mean their program isn't working. I guess our mechanic who has been a diesel mechanic for 35 years doesn't know what he is doing either, and neither do our operators. I also guess that means that our equipment, made for moving dirt, isn't spec'd for moving dirt.

Yes they rebuild them at 10,000 hours, thats just how their extended warranty program works. We still have some of the Cat equipment the company bought brand new when it started in the 70s including a 950 81J with 45,000 hours on it that had been rebuilt once. So yes, we do use Cats, you're very observant.

Caterpillar produces their own truck with their own truck engine, fyi.

I think you can just about figure out whatever you want with a parts and service manual and/or a call to a dealership technician.

Operating is an unskilled trade so I'm assuming you know the ins and outs of operating most equipment since you personally know that it's unskilled with your high level of skill?

You can't control the variables of the dirt you are working with. A Semi U blade on a dozer isn't going to carry much more dirt than it's made for, a 4 yard loader bucket isn't going to hold 8 yards of material, and 5 yards of clay or gravel isn't going to max out the lifting capacity of the 4 yard loader, etc.

Cat couldent meet High way specs to date and I know there doing the very best to make their engines conform to EPA standards, cat will be here for a good long while, maybe not in our peterbuilts any more, but I know for sure you not going to throw a cummins in to replace a cat 3500 Series v 16 in their mining trucks. Or for the freight liners, cat makes some of the biggest diesel and natural gas engines in the world... I know when I run my tractors I just set it to 1500 Rpm or 2000 RPM depending on what implement Im using, I dont want to sit in a tractor for 14 or maybe 24 hours a day using the foot throttle, I can deal with some smoke comming outta my stack, when Im tillin up the ground I can hit a soft spot and lug the tractor down and inturn Im puffin out smoke and inturn I bring it down a gear or two. emmsions dont even matter out here where I live we aint got any, our smog cloud is 2 ft by 2ft and since we have enough wind we just pass it on to you guys in the east. You actually not that far from where I live. 617.95

Any how cat is great with keeping their tech up to date, if they work for caterpiller. Even if hes been there for 35 years he has been certified for cats new technology, and systems. Every year the tech of taught the new systems, and if he cant comprehend the new systems he is let go. There a diffence between a driver and a operator and a operator and a mechanic. A driver just drives and never bothers to check his fluid, and operator does a flight check before running equipment and the Mechanic fixes evrything other than checkin oil. A operator does not neccesairly have to know how a diesel engines and it sytems work. IF they did alot of us would be outta jobs.
