The car that which revs higher for the same hp will be faster in a straight line because it can have shorter gearing and apply more energy to the ground, torque or hp however you want to measure it. If you have zero energy loss, a car with 100hp at 1000rpm will accelerate as fast as a car making 100hp at 5000rpm as long as the gearing is the same. The same cannot be said for torque.
You rev the engine on the line to get it closer to its peak torque rpm at launch to apply max torque to the ground.. forced induction is correct..

Revving an engine at the start of a race is not for peak torque, you want the best possible traction and that means you want a specific amount of tire slip, not to just smoke them. This can occur at 10% peak torque if you have that much to play with. Most cars just don't have enough so peak is there best option.

Cummins is not going to Ford. Yes at one point Ford had stock in Cummins but because of contracts Ford was unable to benefit from ownership so the majority of the stock was sold. They may still have some but not alot. In fact, I have heard rumors of a few new engines that may end up in half ton Ram trucks. No longer Is The Ram truck line apart of Dodge, they are a separate company now but as far as I have heard, there is no intention of the Cummins engines leaving the Ram platform. The duramax has all its problems worked out and is a good engine, for just spent countless millions on a new engine after bad repor with outside componies. Where would Cummins go?
