Default Getting Started

After looking for solutions to my diesel power needs here in the UK, I am left rather disappointed.

I have a Land rover 2.25 litre naturally aspirated diesel, which produces a pathetic 60BHP!
It's a four cylinder, cast iron block & head. Two valves per cylinder, OHV.

The engine is very robust, and I think has a lot of potential.

Now I know the easy solution would be put something bigger in, but I don't want to.

If this was all you had to work with, what would you guys do?

Step 1 is a turbocharger while removing any noteworthy intake or exhaust restrictions along with some kind of intercooling.

Step 2 is hogged-out injectors and/ or some sort of fueling system tweaks to give the engine more fueling.

Step 3 is clamping down the head better and modifying the internals as necessary to be able to live with the increased cylinder pressures steps #1 and #2 will provide.

Step 4 is a driveline that will support the previous three steps.

Thank you, What do you think of the following.

1. I have an turbo from another engine thats got a bust block, so I was going to put that on it. I was also going to put a bigger intake manifold with a larger plenum, and try to match the ports on the head to it. I take it the bigger the intercooler the better?

2. I have a injection pump from a later engine, which I think has a more consistent performance than the old one. But (being british) I'm not sure what you mean by hogged-out injectors, are you meaning larger bore at the nozzle? Also the engine is indirect injection, if that makes any difference.

3. Not something I'd thought of, but make sense.

4. The gearbox that came with the vehicle is an old box and certainly won't handle the extra power, I have a gearbox from a Range rover that was powered by a 3.5 litre V8, I think that should do it.
