Uh, well if its all in tact it should be pretty obvious how it goes back together...shouldnt it?

I've been runnin with the stock filter cannister off for a few years now with no problems, but I'm gettin ready to put it back on anyway. I'm just gonna cut the top off an old filter to put in the cannister so it will seal but not restrict fuel flow any. I like the idea of having the Water In Fuel Light and Heater back in place in the winter times. My new filters have water drains on em, but I don't exactly make a habit of using them and if I get a bad tank of fuel sometime I wanna know before the truck proves it to me.

Doesn't FASS make a filter plate, FP-1001, to go in place of the stock pump so the filter and heater can stay in play???
Treat this as a question. Not an answer.

Guys....the fuel heater in the stock filter head is overrated. From what i understand, it works only when the grid heaters are running. If your fuel gels up, its going to clog up your stock pick-up screen in the tank first and you will have NO fuel to get to the heater or FASS for that point. And the temps you are saying you are having hard starts is not in the range it could be diesel. You have to start getting to 10*F before things start to get thick. If you can keep the fuel from gelling up and clogging the filters in the FASS and the pick-up screen in the tank...our pump will move it. I got guys running our systems down to -30*F with no issues or Fuel heaters....just additives. Remember, after the engine is warm…it’s the best fuel heater you got. SO plug in every time you can when it gets below 40*F. Not to mention is better for the engine.

But with that being said...you can easily plumb in the line to the back of the filter head and it will work. On the 03-04.5 trucks..you will need the FP-1001.....

This is exactly the reason why I have another one.

I plumb the coolant through an exchanger and warm the fuel before it reaches the IP. granted like anything it is not going to work until the fluid is actually warm but I also use the stock element with better filter along with the stock heater element. All fine with 95,000 on my FASS 150/150 - just about ready for it's second filter change!!

Cheers.

Thanks Dan. So you got me convinced that I don't care about the heater now again, how about your opinions on the "Water In Fuel Sensor" that also plugs into the stock cannister.

That is the only reason i can see one wanting to run the stock filter head....but i have ran my system for 4 years with out any WIF issues...as long as you drain your WS on a regular basis....you should be fine...that thing will hold a lot of water.

I drain the WS on mine while the truck is fueling at every fuel stop. I've yet to get more than a couple drops of water out.
