My IH DT466 daily driver rebuild...
#51
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, my Mom had a knee replacement last week and I have had to do a lot of driving her around and taking care of her.
I have another issue with the truck...warmed it up the other day and the brakes went to the floor...the DS front wheel cylinders went out so now I have to get those fixed as well...I will get back into the grove in a couple of weeks...sorry for the delay.

Thanks for the reply...right now I am just trying to get the truck to modern standards...its got an out-dated cab and many other features I want to upgrade...I am building a new bed and adding some really cool feature to make the truck very universal.
Here are some pics of my new mirrors I took yesterday...the brackets are powder coated gloss black and most everything attached is new.

About the brake problem, I should have my parts by next week or so...it looks like new drums and basically everything in front will be replaced...the front brake drums are massive and weigh about a hundred pounds...needless to say they are heavy!...I will post up some photos this week...the brake drums are 15" in diameter with duel wheel cylinders...I was going to have them turned but the parts guy recommended that I replace them and said that turning HD drums down is not recommmended, since I will be hauling heavy loads I will take his advice...but they aren't cheap @ $140 bucks a drum, plus I will have to buy bearings and new races and seals and new brake shoes are in order...I figure with the amount of driving I'll be doing my brakes should be good for the next 7-10yrs...I find it funny that people overlook safety even after I told a friend of mine about the brake drums he said he would have them turned...be back with some more update later

Got back on the road driving trucks...sorry for the slow reply...so I filed for my DOT registration and I think I was screwed...the web site promised a quick turn around and I have been waiting for 6 weeks for my WDT and DOT ****...New Mexico will not register my truck without this stuff..so I went to USDOT.com and was ripped off $125.00...do not go to this website!!...they NEVER return calls and their office is never open...I did file a complaint with the BBB but still have not heard anything yet..

Just another update guys and gals...I called my bank and filed a dispute against the bogus charge...my bank will refund my money in a few days...I will be more careful next time, do more back ground checks.
For the mean time I have got back behind the wheel of a 18 wheeler and have limited time off now...so I will figure out what to do with the dump truck...thinking of doing a body swap some day but not sure yet...thinking of installing a Ford crew cab body on the IH frame...this would allow a much easier licensing process and skip the DOT ****...the federal law changed in 2003 which requires all commercial vehicles over 26,001 lbs to carry a DOT sticker and pay a weight distance tax for all roads driven...might just sell the truck now...still not sure yet what I will do.
Thanks to all that followed this thread.

to get around the dot stuff, cut back your registered weight to 26,000 lbs on your registration ,just be careful of the loads you haul, around here motor vehicle registrar were plating 2500 trucks with commercial plates and we just cut the weight back a bit on them and plate them with pass.car/1500 plates ,save s alot of money and you are not required to cross the scales everytime you go by loaded or emptyI have a f350 with a dump and light plates
