Correct me if I am wrong here guys, the "O" ringing a head refers to ball milling (cutting) around the water passages mating surfaces to except an o-ring for added leak protection.
The term Fire ringing is for around the combustion chamber not sure how its the head is modified or what is used for the ring.I would imagine the head is shelved or stepped and a steel ring is used to strengthen the sealing of the head under extreme combustion pressures.
The Turbo #s are like this as far as i know The first number is the compressor size in millimeters, the second is the turbine in mm and the third number is the exhaust housing size in cubic centimeters.

Fire-ringing means that you buy a headgasket modified with a larger firering from a place like Haisley's and have either the head, block or both machined to accept it.

O-ringing means that you buy a stock headgasket and have a grove cut around the cylinder in either the block or head to lay a piece of wire that will clamp down on the stock gasket.

The first number is the diameter of the inducer side of the compressor wheel in millimeters, the second number is the diameter of the exducer side of the compressor wheel in millimeters, the third number is the exhaust housing size in centimeters.

I know the o-ring is better for boosted apps, but what is the fire-ring for?

If i remember correctly I believe the main people who fire ring are pullers, and pro ones at that.

I think most people o-ring, cheaper and safer from what I have read.

fire ringing is supposed to be stronger for higher compression and boosted applications. People tend to say that O-ringing is a better bet for street driven truck applications. Most of the people you hear about fire ringing are pullers and the high performance guys that are pushing un-godly amounts of boost.

So are the first two numbers measurements of the inducer and exducer sides of the compressor wheel, or is the first one a measurement of the inducer side of the compressor wheel and the second a measure of the exducer side of the turbine wheel?

I'm having serious second thoughts about that one but can't find verification and I don't want to have to ask on another site that I might still have some credibility on.

No dumb questions... thats why we are all here to learn, share and grow off of each others knowledge and information. We all had to start somewhere didnt come into the diesel world "knowing it all" No one is doing them selves any favors if you dont as they say learn something new everyday And the prev posts were pretty much right as far as your question.

I contradicted the other guy, we can't both be right.

The second measurement would have to be size of the exhaust wheel, right? If you want to know the exducer diameter of the compressor wheel then you need to know the inducer size of the compressor wheel and the "trim" ratio?
