Default exploding turbo

what is the worst thing that can happen to your truck if the turbo explodes? ive always wondered. id assume it'd send the broken blades down the intake into the motor? could it blow up the engine? or the intercooler?

whats the worst that can happen when a turbo blows

well exploding turbos are most commonly cause by an explosive mixture present in the air in the turbo. Like that bottle of nitro glycerin I left in the airbox of the Jerk who jammed his door into the side of my truck. Blew up the engine, Hell it blew up the whole truck! I would say that is probably the worst that could happen.

The chances of large particles making it through the after cooler is rather slim however there is still the chance of smaller particles being ingested into the engine and causing damage. Don't have an after cooler? Hope the peice is bigger than the intake port of the head otherwise its getting crunched.

depends on which side i guess you can get pieces in the intercooler and possibly through the intercooler to the intake valves then that would suck because of the possibilities of pieces on your pistons and if exhaust side wheel grenaded could get them on exhaust valves depending on the situation they both suck because if it does'nt cause immediate damage it is a long drawn out process looking for pieces before you are able to run engine again

The early Volkswagen like the corrado G60 and the Polo G40 had a wire mesh in front of the intercooler tubing to prevent major damage to the engine.

I had parts of a compressor wheel end up lodged in the grid heater on my truck when my HX40 wheel blew up on the hybrid charger I used to run
