First time plugging in truck tonite.

usually you wanna plug in starting between 30-40deg.
if it takes 6 miles or so to heat up I feel sorry for ya! but plugging in it'll start easier, not have hardly any white smoke and be kickin out warm air in 1/2 mile or so
you can keep it plugged in as long as you want with no ill effects.
addicted to being plugged in? no people who say that usually have a bad glow/grid system and compensate for it with the block heater.

just a little tip, when pluging a vehicle in it is best to put the cord up and around something by the drivers door so that you remember it when you leave home so that you don't drag it down the road with you, when I plug my big trucks in I always wrap the cord around the convex mirror on the drivers door so that the drivers don't forget to unplug them, picked up a few ext. cords down the road over the yrs from drivers that my father had

I was just scrolling down wondering why nobody mentioned to make sure you unplug it until the last post. Where I plug my truck in the metal box holds the cord plugged in so when I do forget to unplug (all the time) the cord stays home and the truck unplugs itself as I back out. Probably not the best thing for the cord, but no harm yet. When we get below 0, the Duramax is either running or plugged in all the time. It cools off in a heartbeat if I shut it down during the day, so I let her run and keep the extra keys in my pocket for when the dog locks me out. The Dodge isn't as bad about cooling off quick, but I don't like to let it idle very long.

if your worried about unpluging it, i saw a video somewhere with a device that spits the plug when you start the truck, on unlock, or hit brakes, where ever you put the 12v tap into. also a good idea to have something to hang the plug on for when you get home, try diggin in a foot of snow for that plug once and you wont do it again......
