Default Amsoil synthetic 15W40

Anyone use this stuff? Is it all they crack it up to be? Currently on Rotella dino oil and interested in going full synthetic in a 217,000 km 7.3 powerstroke. Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated before I commit to the stuff. I apologize in advance for not having done a forum search on the subject.

It's good stuff. Can go 10,000 miles or more per oil change, and it flows better in the cold.

Going to a fully synthetic 15-40 seems to be a waste of money to me, because bieng a full syn a 5-40 is a better weight of oil. just my .02. this thread will probably move to the additives, oils, fuels, ect thread. anyway it all depends on your pocket book how much you want to spend. I personally wont run any oil past 6k between changes just cause i like getting rid of the contaminants. do some research on sites. here is some info for ya. remember the more ratings means the more testing done..

I would stick to Rotella, especially in a 7.3. The ones I've seen have all been pretty much bulletproof and proper maintenance with any oil is all god IMHO. Only newer diesels with all that dpf/egr stuff actually require a high end synthetic like Amsoil. Save some $$$, stick to what's proven.

It's a great oil as many can atest to. There are things to consider. What is the condition of you high mileage engine. If it uses or leaks, chances are it won't get any better. I put up with usage in an older truck, but that's because all I wanted was amsoil in it.
Does cost matter? If it's used the way it's supposed to be, you'll save money. To some cost doesn't matter, but it does cost more, so depends on how you want to use it.
Great performance in the winter....not sure where you are located.
If you have other questions, just fire.
