We all the time have people on here that want smoke and will do what they have to to get it , other than wanting power and getting the smoke as a by product.

Its the nature of the beast. We shall not treat the uneducated like dumb asses and preach to them over and over.

99% of them know exactly what they are talking about when wanting black smoke stating the obvious to them and preaching Anti Smoke Bi Laws to them , is completely hypocritical especially on Diesel Bombers!

I don't think it's hypocritical....I started out as a smoke fiend but I "grew up" so to speak and learned. I'm not saying we need to go the Gale Banks route and say it's stupid and all that but somewhere in between. We can give the tuning advice and power upgrades and all that but recommend trying to do it cleaner and more efficient and get more mpg and use more of th efuel being injected. Smoke is just wasted fuel. With fuel pricing creeping back up I know I want to use every drop I can in my tank.

Sometimes the members are pretty harsh to newbies who beg for smoke ,

Put a plastic bag over your air filter

Blowing smoke is a phase the majority of us went threw and a lot of us are still in. When you are past this phase then you shouldn't look down on someone who wants smoke as that was most likely you at one point , Like you guys have said educate them (not preach) and they will understand the what for.

Yeah I know what you mean....while that's funny it does put a new guy in an awkward position. I think we all need to do a better job of explaining to the new guy asking for smoke why he shouldn't be looking for just smoke.

Like most, I can tell you how to get it and I can also tell you how to drive to not get it. I personally like sleepers - keep it totally under wraps until you push the skinny pedal down and take off.
My benz for example doesn't smoke at all, has the latest enviro controls and cruises very nicely at 100 MPH and still gets 37 MPG doing it. For a big 7 seater all wheel drive wagon that's nice, very nice.

No but you can get 400hp out of a single and do it without blacking out the road either.

DM, come on, that's a bit harsh don't you think? I don't expect anyone to go out and buy a $50K car. Far from it.

If you do anything right you can "tune" something to get more punch simple enough. As I said it comes down to education. You have to pay to play and in this case you may be paying fines as well but do that a few times and you learn the hard way.

Most VW's don't smoke either and they drive nicely, quite quickly and get great mileage too. Audi is the same there only more $$. BMW is more concerned about going fast then saving money, even with their oil burner and honestly, a dodge like mine is a great truck when it is worked but as a daily driver it is a bit much in the city.

Of course, that's just my canadian 2 cents worth.

I didn't say no smoke...plus you have to take the parts on hand into account as well. I agree a 400hp VE is gonna beltch some smoke but there is a middle ground....it can be tuned to clean it up and the driver can control how much he/she blows out as well.....of course a new electronic controlled engine is gonna be cleaner that's a no brainer but I can make my P-pump black out the intersection or leave cleaner than most cars....in the end it's up to the person behind the wheel and that's where the education takes hold.
