buying a 09 diesel, need help.
Hopefully before may starts I will be buying a brand new truck. My options are, new 2500 6.7 cummins, or the new chevy duramax w/ allison. Ive done a lot of research and it seemed to be inconsistent. Im leaning more towards the cummins but after hearing so much about transmission problems I am starting to reconsider. Many have said the problem is near gone but maybe thats just myth. Please give me what you think would be the best choice and why.
just to give you a little more info, i need this for work, towing a cattle trailer and boat, so put that into consideration.
Thanks again.

I would go dodge -cummins I don't think the trannys are giving that much trouble just when the powers bumped over stock and abused same problem with the allison all the big three aren't going to be trouble free with the egr's and p-filters and more emissions , but I think the dodge is a better choice for longevity also fords shouldn't be left out there pretty stout.

in my opinon, if you want an automatic that is comfortable to drive, go with the d-max. they run good, and i think they get a little better fuel milage then the new dodge. if you want a good, solid, 6 spd, go with the cummins. i think the d-max will pull a little nicer if you don't want to put a lot of performance money into it. BUT if you are planing to put money into the engine and the trans, i would go with the cummins. i drive both of these trucks pretty regular, dmax for work, and cummins for play. i have a small lift and tires on my cummins for now and it pulls nice and handles nice, but the dmax's that i drive for work are BONE STOCK, and they do just nicely. its all in what you want to do with it.

Everybody has an opinion on which trucks are best, In all reality it all depends on what you wanna drive. Ford GM and Dodge all have their strong points and their weaknesses. Iv personally always drove a Dodge and have never been left stranded anywhere the dealerships give me quality prompt service and I have no complaints, I know people who drive Duramaxs and they seem to like them. Same goes with Powerstrokes. It all boils down to which on you think looks best and has the options you want.

I also agree with 95cumminsguy go with what you want, my mom and dad just bought an 09 Chevy 2500HD with the Duramax it's going to be my mom's daily driver and I have an 06 Dodge which has a fully billet goerend auto and a few power adders, and the one i would like to go cruising around town in is the dodge cause it's an attention getter but if i were to do long trips or towing or anything where you want a great ride with a good motor and an awesome transmission I'd pick the duramax, and IN MY experiences chevy stands behind their warranties alot better, but that is why I capitalized the above is because everyone has different experiences
